BEATEN Huddersfield Giants coach Paul Anderson refused to blame weather conditions for his side’s second Super League defeat of the season.

Huddersfield missed the chance to stay three points clear at the top as they were beaten 28-2 at Warrington Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium last night.

The contest was played in a blizzard from start to finish and it had a massive impact in the way the game was played but Anderson, who paid tribute to the travelling Giants fans who made the journey across the Pennines in dreadful conditions, refused to hide behind the weather for the way his side performed.

“Warrington handled the conditions far better than we did,” said Anderson, who is confident all 17 players on duty will be available to face Salford City Reds away on Good Friday.

“It is pretty much as simple as that, and Warrington took their chances well and I also thought their defence was key to the outcome. I am disappointed not to have won, but we were up against one of the best sides in the competition, and they showed us what can happen if we don’t play to the best of our abilities.

“But I am just as disappointed that we didn’t reward those fans who made the trip over the Pennines with the performance that they deserved.

“I would like to thank them all for making the effort to come and watch the team and get behind us in the manner they did – I am just sorry we didn’t produce the goods to match the supporters’ commitment on the night.”
