HUDDERSFIELD Giants host Super League champions Leeds Rhinos on Sunday desperate to prove they’ve learned the lessons of their shock defeat at Hull KR a fortnight ago.

The second-placed Giants’ 35-28 Craven Park defeat enabled leaders Wigan Warriors to move five points clear at the top of the Super League XVIII table with nine games of the regular season remaining.

Huddersfield’s fifth loss of the campaign also enabled third-placed Warrington Wolves to close the gap to within one point of head coach Paul Anderson ’s men.

But the Huddersfield Giants chief  is confident his side is ready to prove the Rovers reverse was a one-off and that a top-two Super League finish is still firmly on the cards.

And he feels a big home date against the reigning champions is the ideal opportunity to ram home that point.

“To be honest, we’ve got that Hull KR game out of our system now,” said Anderson, who is expected to name the same 19-man squad that was on duty at Craven Park 14 days ago.

“We’ve obviously discussed one or two things and, looking back on it, we probably didn’t prepare for that game as well as we could have done. As a group, we all have to take some responsibility for that.

“We just didn’t apply ourselves how we would have wanted.

“But we knew exactly where we went wrong, and I’m sure that if the boys had been given the chance, they would have gone straight back out onto the field to put things right.

“Unfortunately, they didn’t.

“They’ve had to wait a couple of weeks to show what they can do, and they’re looking forward to doing just that this weekend.

“And I know they’re glad to get the chance to do it against Leeds .

“We’ve already spoken many times this season about how the Giants of 2013 are looking to create our own history, and we’ve got another chance to do just that this weekend.

“We’ve already beaten Leeds at Headingley and knocked them out of the Challenge Cup, so on Sunday we could secure a hat trick of wins over Leeds in one season.

“Not many clubs have been able to say that over the years, but we might be able to say that on Sunday night!”
