Huddersfield Giants deny a Super League deal for Leigh Centurions star Ryan Brierley has been done

Speculation refuses to go away

Huddersfield Giants have denied rumours they are on the verge of signing Leigh Centurions scrum half Ryan Brierley.

Sky Sports last night suggested a deal had been done to bring the talented 24-year-old to the John Smith’s Stadium, even though there’s widespread speculation he’s signed for Leeds Rhinos for next season.

But that claim was immediately dismissed by Giants managing director Richard Thewlis.

“Naturally, we hear the rumours and speculation, but we will not be drawn into commenting,” said Thewlis.

“The facts are, the only signing we have made this week is Sam Wood (who has been promoted to the Super League squad from the club’s Under 19s).”

Unsettled Leigh star Brierley has been linked with the Giants for some time, with suggestions earlier in the year that Huddersfield had made two bids to acquire his services.

And with money available following the sudden departure of England international Brett Ferres to Leeds, it wouldn’t appear to be beyond the realms of possibility.
