Huddersfield Giants marketing chief James Brammer is ready to make the most of a successful Rugby League World Cup.

England open their campaign against favourites Australia at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on Saturday (2.30) as part of a double header, with Wales hosting Italy two hours later.

A further 26 matches at 20 other venues will then take place over a five-week period as rugby league is handed a massive opportunity to make a major impact on the national stage.

Success for England would be the icing on the cake.

But Brammer knows that if the tournament manages to capture the public’s imagination, it could have a positive knock-on effect for 2013 Super League Leaders Huddersfield in their bid to keep building their fan base.

And with a total of nine Giants in action for six different nations – England’s Leroy Cudjoe and Brett Ferres, Wales’ Craig Kopczak and Larne Patrick, Ireland’s Scott Grix and Anthony Mullally, Scotland’s Danny Brough, Papua New Guinea’s Jason Chan and Tonga’s Ukuma Ta’ai – there will be a lot of local interest in a number of the matches taking place.

“This World Cup is a huge opportunity for us,” said Brammer.

“A successful tournament would do wonders for the profile of rugby league, and we’ve got to make sure we’re there to take advantage if that’s the case.

“It really could provide another massive shot in the arm for the Giants.

“We’re obviously desperate to build on our historic 2013 campaign when Huddersfield finished top of the League for the first time in 81 years, both on and off the field.

“We’ve recently announced some very exciting new signings for 2014 in Jodie Broughton, Antonio Kaufusi and Chris Bailey, which have all been well received.

“And that excitement has remained with so many Giants players about to take part in the World Cup.

“The John Smith’s Stadium game between England and Ireland in nine days’ time is a sell-out and there’s a real buzz around the town.

“As a result, we intend to pull out all the stops in a bid to jump on the back of this feelgood factor and attract more fans. We have some important deadlines approaching on the season-ticket front, including discounted offers until December 2, and we’ll be pushing and pushing between now and then.”
