Huddersfield Giants players Aaron Murphy and Scott Grix have been charged with striking and could miss this Sunday’s fixture against Wigan.

It’s potentially a massive blow for Paul Anderson’s side with Brett Ferres struggling to overcome a knee injury suffered in the Magic Weekend draw against Catalans Dragons in Newcastle.

Murphy has been charged with Grade C striking with the shoulder on Catalans player Willie Tonga in the 17th minute.

Grix has been cahrge with Grade B striking with the shoulder on Morgan Escare in the seventh minute.

Catalans’ Remy Casty has been charged with making a Grade C dangerous throw on Giants’ Eorl Crabtree three minutes from time.

All three players have until 11am today to make Early Guilty pleas, which would mean they would miss the next match.

Meanwhile, Super League chief executive Nigel Wood issued a ‘thank you’ to everyone who helped make Magic Weekend 2015 the most successful in the event’s history.

A total of 67,788 fans packed into St James’ Park for the two-day spectacular that saw a full round of Super League fixtures played at the home of Newcastle United on Saturday and Sunday.

The overall figure included a record 40,871 on Saturday and on Sunday 26,917 fans.

The total weekend attendance of 67,788 is also an all-time Magic Weekend record, surpassing the previous best of 64,552 set at the Etihad Stadium, Manchester, last year.

“Magic Weekend 2015 has been a terrific success and I would like to thank everyone involved for the part they played in a weekend that will live long in the memory,” said Wood.
