Huddersfield Giants chief Paul Anderson is delighted he’ll be able to take his squad to Wakefield Trinity Wildcats to compete in former player Andy Raleigh’s testimonial game.

Huddersfield will travel to Belle Vue on Sunday, January 26 in the first of the Super League Leaders’ Shield winner’s two warm-up games, with Hull KR visiting the John Smith’s Stadium six days later (Saturday, February 1).

With the 32-year-old Raleigh having spent six seasons with hometown club Huddersfield (2006-11), a Wakefield-Giants clash was the obvious testimonial choice for the respected forward.

And Anderson is delighted there was an opportunity for the fixture to be arranged.

“When Andy first asked me about the chance of getting the game on, I didn’t know if we could do it, because we’d already got another fixture pencilled in,” said Anderson.

“But for some reason or another, that fell through, which meant we were free to take part in Andy’s game. Everyone at Huddersfield is delighted about that.

“He’s been a great servant to the Giants, and to the game in general, over the years, so it’ll be good for us to go over to Wakefield and be part of what should be Andy’s special day.

“I’ve obviously worked with Andy at Huddersfield for a number of years, and he was always an excellent professional and great to work with.

“He’s thoroughly deserved this testimonial game, and I hope the fans come out in good numbers on the day to support him.”
