At Warrington, Giants fans were allowed 500ml bottles of water. However, 500ml in a 1litre bottle is not permitted, so it is the 1litre plastic bottle which is not allowed.

At least, that is what the stewards at the gates were saying, but when this was reported to the head of security he was stunned.

He subsequently escorted the supporter through the turnstile and spoke with the men outside.

The situation has become ridiculous.

Is it because of security? Or is it because clubs want to sell their own products inside the ground?

If it is the latter, then sensible food and drink should be on sale at reasonable prices.

And advance warning should be given when tickets are purchased.

It is sad time for the club with the passing of David Gronow and fitting tributes are being paid in the world of Rugby League and local sport for a man steeped in the traditions of Fartown and the Giants – though he would never use the latter name!

His grandfather was a member of that illustrious Team Of All Talents, his father both played for the club and served on the committee and Dave himself was secretary of our Players Association for many years.

More recently he was one of the key members of the Heritage Project’s Steering Committee. His input contributed hugely to the phenomenal success of the ‘Lasting Legacy’ – he will be sorely missed.
