They turned up in their hundreds to meet their favourite Super League stars.

Giants season-ticket holders of all ages watched head coach Paul Anderson put Huddersfield’s Super League squad through their paces at an open training session at Leeds Road Playing Fields.

And the fans were then able to get the autographs and have their pictures taken with their rugby league heroes.

The players took a break from preparing for next Thursday’s Super 8s clash against Castleford Tigers at the John Smith’s Stadium to spend time with their supporters, with plans already in place to make it an annual event.

“This is the first time we’ve ever staged an event like this, and we couldn’t have been happier with the way it went,” said Giants marketing manager James Brammer.

“It was fantastic to see hundreds of fans coming down here, watching a training session up close and personal and then getting the chance to meet their favourite players.

“Because it proved such an overwhelming success, we’re already planning to make this an annual event.

“We felt holding the open training session at this stage of the year was perfect, as it’s just before the end of the summer school holidays.

“It also helped that the Giants are doing so well in the Super 8s at the moment.

“We’ve just moved up to third in the table and are closing in on a play-off semi-final spot, so the mood among everyone is really positive. Events like this helped to make that mood even brighter.”
