DEFEATED Giants coach Paul Anderson is today picking up the pieces of the 30-16 opening night Super League setback at St Helens.

As well as failing to collect the points, Anderson confirmed he could be without key international trio skipper Danny Brough, full-back Scott Grix and centre Joe Wardle for some time.

Wardle picked up a quad tear on the eve of the game and could be sidelined for up to six weeks, while Brough has a dead leg and Grix, who dislocated his shoulder, could also be absent for the next few games.

And Anderson said it summed up a night of frustration and said: “Injurywise this is the toughest I have known it since I took over at the club.

“We were without several players before the game and now that injury list is stacking up further.

“As a result we saw a lot of the young players and we will be looking for them to step up in the weeks ahead.”
