Huddersfield Giants head coach Paul Anderson is in a position to do his hometown club Castleford Tigers a huge favour.

A win for the Giants in their final Super League game of the season at home to St Helens next Friday could potentially open the door for the Tigers to take the League Leaders Shield.

However, Castleford will need to beat Wakefield at home tomorrow to keep that dream alive, while the Giants have their own push to rise into the top four to deal with as they take on Hull at the John Smith’s Stadium (3pm).

And coach Anderson feels that his players could do well to look back at their own table-topping achievement of last season as they build up to this season’s play-offs.

“This time last year it was a big deal for our club as we joined an elite group of clubs who have won the League Leaders Shield,” said Anderson.

“Castleford could possibly still join us in that club, and from our experience of last season I have to say that it was a big deal.

“When you look at where Huddersfield had been, struggling in the depths with just 200 people watching, it was a great achievement and quite rightly there was a lot of emotion around it.

“But what you have to do is take that experience and try and go one better next time.”
