Delighted Paul Anderson is hoping Huddersfield Giants can use last night’s hard-fought 24-12 home triumph over Widnes Vikings as a huge Super League XX stepping stone.

The victory was Huddersfield’s first of the 2015 top-flight campaign after defeats in their opening three rounds against Leeds, Wigan and Hull.

But the Giants chief knows his side must play a lot better than they did against Widnes if they are to make it two wins on the trot at home to Castleford Tigers next Thursday night.

“We’re obviously delighted to have won, and it’s clearly eased some of the pressure,” said Anderson, who praised his captain, Danny Brough, for leading the vital victory charge.

“Losing can become a bit of a habit, but we’ve managed to break that now and we want to go on and make winning the habit.

“But no-one is getting carried away here at all, because while we were happy with the result, we know the performance wasn’t the best.

“In fact, in that regard, our overall performance when we lost at Leeds last week (28-24 at Headingley) was better than last night.

“So our focus is obviously to try and keep on improving as much as possible, and hopefully that process will be easier to achieve with some of the pressure having been lifted with this first win.”
