Huddersfield Giants head coach Paul Anderson will be looking for his team to build on an excellent away win against Hull FC as they take on current Super League leaders Leeds Rhinos at the John Smith’s Stadium on Thursday night.

The Giants produced a strong display to win 24-4 against Lee Radford’s side at the KC Stadium and Anderson will be looking for more of the same against Brian McDermott’s Rhinos.

“The manner of the win at Hull was important,” said Anderson.

“I thought at times we robbed ourselves of energy, particularly towards the end of the game, with some errors, poor execution and taking up some poor positions, and I felt we could have managed the second half a little better.

“But for 40 minutes we were very good, but Radders threw everything at us and the 10 minutes after half-time were difficult as they had a point to prove and it wasn’t great for us.”

However, the Giants stern defence earned victory and there were again good performances from Joe Wardle in his new berth in the second row and Jake Connor at centre.

“Joe Wardle could well end up being a back rower a few years down the line,” said Anderson.

“Jake Connor is still learning the game but showed up well – I think both of them will keep getting better the more they play.”

Aside from long-term casualties back row forwards Brett Ferres and Chris Bailey, the Giants look set to have a strong squad with loanee Jordan Cox aiming to be ready to return after missing the game against Hull FC due to illness.
