Giants coach Paul Anderson has expressed his delight at being able to offer teenage full-back Jared Simpson a two-year full-time Super League contract.

The 19-year-old emerged onto the top-flight scene with dramatic effect, scoring a try on his Super League debut against Wigan a month ago and then playing key roles in the successes over Hull KR and Widnes.

As a result, Anderson is looking forward to working with him on a daily basis for at least the next two years.

“Jared deserves the opportunity to stay around longer and go into the top squad with immediate effect,” said Anderson.

“Everyone has seen with his performances over the past few weeks in Super League the potential the coaches here have known was in him.

“He is a tremendous example of a youngster who has taken an opportunity that presented itself to him.

“It’s testament to the club’s development structures and coaches to see a young player who we’ve had from scholarship go all the way through to get a two-year full-time deal in the top squad, and it’s fair to say he has virtually demanded a contract by the quality of his play, which is exactly what we want see from our younger professionals.

“He now has the challenge next year of being out of the Academy and in with men week in, week out, which will take a toll at some point and means he needs to have a good off-season and learn the realities of professional life on and off the field.

“Jared’s attitude and willingness to learn are first class, and he understands the challenges that he now faces in this next stage of his personal development.”
