SHAUN LUNT is happy to break some good mates’ hearts – if it means he can savour Wembley Challenge Cup glory with the Huddersfield Giants!

The 26-year-old hooker is back at Huddersfield and in the form of his life following last season’s highly-successful loan spell at Leeds Rhinos.

Lunt’s final game in the blue and amber was the Super League Grand Final triumph over Warrington Wolves last October.

The former England international also played for the Rhinos in their Challenge Cup final defeat to the Wolves in August as Leeds suffered Wembley heartache for a third time on the trot.

Lunt obviously knows how much that defeat hurt the players, but that will be the last thing on his mind when he takes to the field with the Giants against the Rhinos on Saturday’s Tetley’s Challenge Cup fifth-round tie at the John Smith’s Stadium.

“Leeds are desperate to win the Challenge Cup. I saw that for myself last season,” said Lunt, who was in the Giants team beaten by Warrington in the 2009 Challenge Cup final at Wembley.

“Although they’ve done so well in Super League, their Challenge Cup record in comparison has been disappointing.

“I know it’s something they’re keen to put right, but we (the Giants) will have something to say about that!

“It’s fairly common knowledge how much I enjoyed my time at Leeds and that I’d have been happy to have stayed there.

“But since I’ve returned to Huddersfield to play under Baloo (coach Paul Anderson) I’ve enjoyed every single second of it. It’s been brilliant and I’m delighted with the form I’ve been in.

“All I’m bothered about on Saturday is being part of a Giants team that beats Leeds and takes us a step closer to Wembley.”
