Paul Anderson is hoping Shaun Lunt can put an injury-hit start to the season behind him and lead the Giants’ charge to more Super League glory.

The inspirational hooker was at the heart of Huddersfield’s Easter double over Salford Red Devils and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats as last season’s table-toppers made a welcome return to the top eight.

The 27-year-old missed five of his side’s opening six top-flight fixtures after suffering an ankle injury in the opening-night triumph at champions Wigan Warriors.

And after easing himself back into action, Lunt is now beginning to show the form that earned him a place in last season’s Super League Dream Team – and much to the delight of head coach Anderson.

“Lunty’s really getting back into his stride and it was good for him to get some time under his belt against Wakefield, when he played the full 80 minutes,” said Anderson.

“We considered pulling him at one point, but we didn’t and what he did was push through it. That’s a good sign for him, especially because he got a knock to a knee on Friday and still got through the full game on Monday.

“He’ll certainly benefit from that and hopefully contribute even more in the games ahead.”
