Shaun Lunt could be closing in on his return to Huddersfield Giants action.

Last season’s Super League Dream Team hooker has spent the past two months on the sidelines with a troublesome calf injury.

The 27-year-old has already undergone several minor setbacks on the road to a full recovery.

But Huddersfield chief Paul Anderson is hoping this could be the week Lunt’s period of frustration can come to an end and he can step back onto the competitive field for Sunday’s home clash against Catalan Dragons.

“Lunty’s taken a full part in training today, and it’s now a case of seeing how he comes through,” said Anderson.

“So the key now is for him to try and back up this training session with another one tomorrow and then again at the end of the week.

“And it goes without saying we’ll be delighted to get him back.

“He’s a quality player playing in a key position for us. As a hooker, he’s our first point of contact with the ball.

Chris Bailey, Luke Robinson, Kyle Wood and Kruise Leeming have all gone into the position and done a good job for us.

“But everyone will appreciate getting Lunty back out there would be massive for him and massive for the team.”
