Huddersfield Giants coach Paul Anderson has warned his players not to get caught up in the emotion of the events at troubled London Broncos and continue to focus 100% on themselves.

The bottom-of-the-table Broncos this week parted company with coach Ton Rea after losing their opening 11 Super League games of the season.

He has been replaced by assistant and fellow Australian Joe Grima, who was originally expected to take over for the start of next year.

The Broncos will hope the change of coach brings a change of fortunes for the capital club, who look odds-on to be one of the two clubs relegated at the end of 2014.

But Anderson is keen for his club to distance themselves from all their woes.

“The people at London will obviously be hoping there’s a positive reaction to what’s happened this week,” said Anderson.

“They’ll be looking for a reaction from the players, while their new coach has the opportunity to make a mark straight away and do whatever he can to start with a win.

“It’s up to us to take all this emotion out of the game and prepare the best we can to meet the challenge we face.

When we went to Catalan earlier in the year, they’d lost their opening five games and were under some pressure.

“But we gave them their first win, so I’m damned if we’re going to do the same for London.”

And Anderson is confident that unwanted static can be avoided.

“With all due respect, we know we’re a good team and if we play well we should beat London,” added Huddersfield’s head coach.

“But we know any team can be dangerous when they get on that field, and we’ve got to be alive to that fact. If our attitude isn’t right we know we’ll get our backsides slapped, whether they’re top of Super League or bottom.

“As usual, it’s all about getting our own preparation spot-on and making sure we meet the challenge head-on and overcome it.”
