Frustrated Huddersfield Giants are looking to arrange another pre-season fixture.

Sunday's opening trial clash at Bradford Bulls fell victim to the current icy blast, with a frozen pitch and snow causing the game to be called off at 11.30 on the morning of the game.

The postponement means the Giants face the prospect of heading into their opening Super League XX clash at home to Hull FC on Sunday, February 8 with just one warm-up game under their belt – next Sunday’s clash against Halifax at The Shay.

And Huddersfield managing director Richard Thewlis is in talks with rival clubs to try and make sure that’s not the case.

“Our first suggestion was to move the postponed Bradford game to this Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday,” revealed Thewlis.

“But that suggestion was immediately rejected.

“At the moment that means we’ll be heading into the new season with just the one trial game, and we’d obviously like to sort something else out.

“That’s what we’re doing first thing this morning.”

With the Odsal game called off, Giants head coach Paul Anderson gave the players the day off.

But he immediately warned them there will be a price to pay for having an enforced break.

“We plan to hit them in training this week as a result,” said Anderson.

“It’s too early at this stage to know if our initial plans for the Halifax game will be affected by not playing this game at Bradford. That’s down to what happens in training.”
