Explosive winger Jermaine McGillvary admits the refreshed Giants can’t wait to get back onto the field and have the chance to pick up the Super League pieces.

Huddersfield head to Salford Red Devils tomorrow (6.00) still smarting from their bitterly-disappointing 30-6 defeat at Hull FC.

That meant the Giants have won just one of their last eight League and Cup outings.

But even though the Giants have been on the receiving end of some tough calls during that time, McGillvary knows it’s in his team’s own hands to turn it around and re-discover the form that helped them claim the Super League Leaders’ Shield last season – and that’ll hopefully come against the Red Devils.

“The Hull defeat has been a tough one for us to take,” said McGillvary.

“And, unfortunately, we’ve had a bit of time to dwell on it. It’ll be eight days between Hull and Salford.

“But, on the other hand, that also means we’ve had longer to try and iron a few things out.

“We don’t like making excuses, but it was always going to be a real challenge for us at Hull last Thursday.

“That was just four days after we’d played what was a massive game, both physically and mentally, in the Challenge Cup against St Helens. The nature of the defeat (losing 17-16 in such controversial circumstances) hit us pretty hard.

“It meant we hardly had any time to dust ourselves down and try and get back up for what was always going to be another big, physical challenge at Hull.

“Having said that, we also know we should have been a lot better that night. We only had ourselves to blame for the way we let the game slip away.

“But we’ve had time to freshen ourselves up this week and make sure we’re as well prepared as we possibly can be for Salford.

“We’re looking forward to the challenge of showing everyone we’re still a good team, and that our best games our definitely still ahead of us.”

McGillvary looks set to keep hold of his wing spot tomorrow, with fellow flyer Jodie Broughton missing out on the chance to play against his former club.
