HUDDERSFIELD GIANTS opened their Valvoline Academy Under 18s campaign with a big 72-28 triumph over Sheffield Eagles at Huddersfield YMCA last night.

The home side dominated from start to finish and had opened up a 38-14 interval advantage before turning the screw after the break.

Josh Hunt and Jake Connor led the way by scoring hat tricks, while there were two tries for Jake Shoel and one each for Liam Coe, Nathan Mason, Tom Hall, George King, Peter Aspinall, Lewis Graham and Ashley Webb.

Coe and Jack Miller added four goals each to complete the scoring.

Next up is the club’s Under 20s Valvoline Cup side who face Leeds Rhinos in a curtain-raiser to tonight’s Super League clash at Headingley (5.45).

But the make-up of the squad was being kept under wraps until the last minute.

That was because the Giants’ coaching staff were still to decide who would be dropping out of the 19-man Super League squad and could have a run in the 20s instead.
