SWINTON have a near impossible task on their hands if they are going to topple Huddersfield on Sunday.

The Giants will provide a real step up in quality from what they have faced in the Carnegie Challenge Cup so far, with victories coming against amateurs Siddal and lowly Gateshead on their route to the fifth round.

Historically, Swinton could be regarded as a big club, with six League Championships and three Cup wins in their trophy cabinet.

Their last title win came 48 years ago, though, and you have to look before World War Two to see the last time they lifted the Challenge Cup crown.

The current Lions crop are familiar to success after winning the Co-operative Championship I to gain promotion to the second tier last season.

No relegation means that they can relax this year, as they will look to take great inspiration from fellow Championship side Featherstone.

Rovers toppled Castleford Tigers in the last round at Post Office Road in one of the biggest Cup shocks in recent times.

After running Featherstone close last week, with a 24-26 defeat, Swinton will be hoping to provide an even bigger shock this weekend against high-flying Huddersfield.

SPEEDSTER Kevin Penny could be a threat on Sunday.

The ex-Warrington winger was one of the game’s brightest talents and was voted in the Super League dream team in 2007 and was under serious consideration for international honours.

But since then his career has slowly been dwindling away which has now led him down to Swinton.

He will be looking to perform on the big stage against the Giants, though, in what could be a make or break a season for the former fastest man in rugby league if he is ever to get back into Super League.

STEVE McCORMACK is a coach who has really made a name for himself below Super League.

In 2001, at the age of just 28, McCormack got his big break at Salford City Reds to become the youngest ever Super League coach.

Since he left the big time, McCormack has guided Widnes, Whitehaven and Leigh to National League Grand Finals, but his greatest achievement was guiding the Vikings to Northern Rail cup glory in 2007.

The Scotland coach will be hoping for more success in the Challenge Cup, but he knows his team faces a monumental task if they are going to beat the Giants.
