Upbeat Huddersfield Giants are determined to build on their last two eye-catching triumphs and produce a massive finish to their Super League season.

Last season’s Super League Leaders’ Shield winners backed up their 31-22 home victory over reigning champions Wigan a fortnight ago with a dramatic 24-22 triumph at second-placed Leeds Rhinos last night.

Their fourth win on the trot at Headingley moved the Giants back up to fifth in the top-flight table.

And Huddersfield assistant coach Kieron Purtill feels those results have put the side in prime position to mount a serious bid for Super League Grand Final glory.

“Our aim has always been to be in a position to build some momentum for the back end of the year when it really matters, and we’d like to think we’re going the right way about it,” said Purtill, who admitted he couldn’t have celebrated securing a new Giants contract extension in a better way than last night’s success.

“We’re obviously still not where we want to be, we know there’s room for improvement.

“But our last two games have proved what we’re capable of achieving against some of the top sides, and that’s great for building your

self-belief and momentum.

“Things are looking exceptionally positive for this club at all levels, and that’s why I’m glad to be staying here for longer.

“There’s no reason at all why we can’t experience a lot more nights like last night in the future.”
