Huddersfield Giants players could miss out on a Christmas break if their fitness levels haven’t improved.

That’s the warning from head coach Paul Anderson a week before his Super League squad face a series of gruelling physical tests.

The players underwent a similar testing process six weeks ago to measure their fitness levels.

And Anderson has made it clear that any player who hasn’t shown a significant level of improvement in that time will suffer the consequences.

“The players know what’s expected of them next week, so we (the coaching staff) would be bitterly disappointed if the results weren’t good,” said Anderson.

“We are hopeful the outcomes will be positive, because everyone has been working hard.

“But if the results aren’t acceptable, then the players know exactly what to expect. They can forget about having a Christmas break.

“We have very high standards at this club, and the players are all very aware of that fact.

“It’s up to them to make sure they keep maintaining that standard.”

Several members of the squad will be missing next week’s testing as they are having a break following their World Cup exploits.

But Wales duo Craig Kopczak and Larne Patrick and Ireland’s Scott Grix returned to pre-season training today.
