HUDDERSFIELD Giants will battle for the right to reach the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup in front of a national audience.

Coach Jon Sharp’s Challenge Cup finalists of 2006 have been handed a tough draw at fellow Super League club Hull KR on Sunday, May 11.

And Rugby Football League chiefs have confirmed it will be screened live by the BBC with a 1.15pm start.

Sharp admits it will be a tough assignment.

But having drawn 24-24 at Craven Park in the League a month ago, the Galpharm chief knows it’s a game his side can win.

“This is a tough one, but not a shocker,” said Sharp.

“We’ve avoided teams like Leeds, Bradford and Wigan and don’t have the prospect of a long trip to Harlequins or Catalans, which is a good thing.

“But I suppose that’s exactly the way Hull KR will be thinking too.

“There’s very little between the two teams, as the game over at Hull the other month proved. They have recruited well and are a far better team than they were last year.

“As far as I’m concerned, the fact they have home advantage hands them the favourites’ tag.

“But it’s a match that does give us hope of making further progress in the competition, and we’ve got to make the most of it if we possibly can.

“The Challenge Cup has been good for this club in recent years.

“I’m proud of the fact we’ve reached a final, semi-final and quarter-final during my time here, and it would be fantastic to reach the Wembley final this year.

“However, we can’t get too carried away at this stage.

“Between now and the Hull KR tie we’ve got some big Super League games to play, and the form and fitness of players could alter in that time.

“But I know it’s a game the boys will be looking forward to playing, especially as we have the chance to show what we can do on the national stage.

“To be honest, we’ve not been too good in front of the television cameras over the past year.

“It’s obviously something we are very keen to remedy.

“This game provides the club with some excellent exposure, and that would receive even more of a boost if we could go there and win.

“With the way the draw for the fifth round has shaped up, there will be some quality teams not involved in the quarter-final. We don’t want to be one of them.”
