Paul Anderson is confident his Huddersfield Giants will be able to handle the expected early St Helens onslaught and add to the pains of his former club tonight.

Although Saints are second in the Super League table with 10 wins from their first 13 top-flight fixtures, former Giants chief Nathan Brown’s side have lost three of their last five League games and were also dumped out of the Challenge Cup by Leeds Rhinos during that time.

Their stuttering form was highlighted in demoralising fashion with Sunday’s 41-24 Magic Weekend defeat at the hands of Warrington Wolves.

And former St Helens prop Anderson knows that makes tonight’s hosts even more dangerous.

“Browny didn’t mince his words about how he felt Saints had played on Sunday,” said Anderson, who is ready to welcome back in-form winger Jermaine McGillvary after missing the 54-16 Magic Weekend win over Bradford Bulls with an ankle injury picked up during the victory at London Broncos the week before.

“As a result, I’m sure it would have been a fair old video session in the wake of that Warrington game, and I’m also sure it would have been pretty tough for the players to take.

“Browny will now obviously be looking for a positive reaction from his players as soon as the game gets under way, and that’s something we’ve had to think about ahead of going over there.

“For us, it’s a case of having to put the St Helens fire out with our intensity.

“It’s a challenge we must face head-on, and it’s one I expect us to win.”
