Huddersfield Giants' Aaron Murphy could be in line for an immediate return to Super League duty.

The Giants’ utility back was left out of the side that drew 12-12 at home to Leeds on Friday night to make way for Jodie Broughton’s Huddersfield debut.

But after scoring a well-taken first-half try, former Salford speedster Broughton was forced off the field with a medial ligament injury early in the second half.

Club officials are now awaiting the results of scans to assess the full extent of the damage, with Giants chief Paul Anderson knowing he would have an outstanding replacement in Murphy.

“What happened to Jodie was really unfortunate,” said Anderson.

“He started the game nervously, but he grew and grew the longer the game went on, and the way he took his try was a sign of what a good player he is.

“So to pick up the knee injury was really disappointing.

“He’s had to be patient to get his chance, because I wanted to show some loyalty to Murph for the way he played last season.

“It was a straight decision to go with Jodie instead of Murph for the Leeds game.

“But if Jodie is ruled out we know that in Aaron Murphy we have a quality player to come straight back in.”
