Huddersfield Giants will be heading to Newcastle in 2015.

The Rugby Football League are this week set to confirm Newcastle United’s St James’ Park as the host venue for next season’s Super League Magic Weekend in May.

For the past three seasons the popular event has been staged at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, with the Giants having beaten Bradford Bulls twice and lost to Salford at the Premier League venue.

But with the north-west venue undergoing a major facelift at the end of this football season, a change was needed, with Newcastle pipping Coventry for the honour of staging what has become a popular event on the rugby league calendar.

The Magic Weekend will see all 12 Super League clubs playing an extra round of regular-season matches, with Newcastle the fourth city to stage the event after Manchester, Cardiff and Edinburgh.
