SHAUN LUNT has expressed his delight at helping the Giants secure a hat trick of triumphs over Leeds Rhinos in 2013.
But the in-form hooker knows returning to winning ways was far more important in Huddersfield’s bid for Super League glory.
Lunt was again at the heart of his side’s 14th victory of the top-flight campaign, scoring two tries and having a hand in several others.
The 26-year-old was also a key performer in the Giants’ League win at Headingley in March and home Challenge Cup success over the Rhinos in May.
Yet while Lunt knows beating Leeds three times in a season is a very special achievement, it’s the effect yesterday’s win could have on the rest of the Giants’ campaign that is the most significant factor.
“After losing at Hull KR the other week, it was vital we bounced straight back,” said Lunt, who had that successful Grand Final-winning loan spell with the Rhinos last season.
“And it didn’t matter who it was against. The fact it happened to be Leeds was just one of those things.
“I suppose it does have added significance because we were looking for the hat trick.
“But in the bigger scheme of things, it’s the way this win can kick-start our bid for silverware again that’s the most important.
“It means we’ve got our winning momentum back and we’ll look to build on this.
“We’re now looking in good shape again for our home game against Catalan on Friday.”
