Andy Kelly is backing the Huddersfield Giants to win at Hull KR tonight – and for Chris Thorman to then step up and keep leading Huddersfield to Super League success until a new head coach is appointed.
Giants Head of Youth Performance Kelly will lead his club’s senior side into action at the KC Lightstream Stadium (8.00) before setting off to Australia as coach of the England Academy squad tomorrow.
And the stand-in boss knows that with former Giants captain Chris Thorman ready to take over, the club will be in safe hands.
“Although I’m preparing to set off to Australia with the England Academy tomorrow, my sole focus this week has been to make sure the Giants beat Hull KR tonight,” said Kelly.
“I think we’ve struck the right balance between working hard and having some fun to ensure we achieve the right result, so I’m confident we can build on that great win over Hull last week and win again tonight.
“And if we do that, then I know Chris Thorman will step up and keep us heading in the right direction.
“At this stage, we still don’t know when a new head coach will be appointed, but with Chris in charge I know there’s no need to rush.
“If we were in a position where we didn’t have Chris, then my trip to Australia may not have happened. My services may have been better served here.
“But over the past couple of weeks, Chris has shown the capacity to take on the extra workload and has handled everything exceptionally well. I know, 100%, he’ll do an excellent job.”
