ENGLAND World Cup prospect Brett Ferres has made winning silverware with the Huddersfield Giants his top priority.

The in-form 26-year-old back-row forward has earned a re-call to the national squad after helping Huddersfield storm to the top of Super League XVIII.

Ferres was at the heart of the Giants’ stunning 40-4 opening-night win at St Helens and Sunday’s 34-6 home triumph over London Broncos.

And he’s set his sights on helping make it three wins out of three in today’s big home clash against last season’s minor Super League champions Wigan – and made it clear England can wait.

“To be back in the England reckoning is great. It’s always nice to get this sort of recognition,” said Ferres.

“But there are a lot of really important games in front of us at the Giants before I can start to think seriously about England and the World Cup at the end of the year.

“(England coach) Steve McNamara has singled me out for praise because of the way I’ve played in my opening two games.

“But it’s even easier to find yourself back off the radar, and no-one wants that.

“It’s up to me to keep on building on the start I’ve made. I have been happy with it, but I know there’s a lot of room for improvement.

“I’m absolutely loving it here, and I’m sure that’s helping bring the best out of me.

“That’s also the case with a lot of the other lads, too, so we know this could be a massive season for us.

“Hopefully, we’ll take another huge step forward with a win against Wigan today and continue to build from there.

“Winning with the Giants will always be my No1 priority, and if I do get in the England World Cup squad at the end of the season I’ll know I’ve done my job for me club.”

And Ferres knows Huddersfield will need to be at their very best to secure victory over the Warriors.

“I’m sure if we show the right attitude we’ll make it three wins from three,” he continued.

“We know Wigan are a great side, full of quality players, and it’s vital our preparation this week has been spot-on, which I’m sure it will.

“I’ve know doubt that if we go with the same attitude as we did at Saints the other week we’ll give ourselves a great chance.

“But if we approach the game like we did against the Broncos, then we’ll struggle.

“Hopefully, we’ll have learned the lessons from last week.”
