WATCH out for some spark from Giants favourite David Faiumu against Harlequins tonight.

The no-nonsense Kiwi is looking to respond to increased competition for places by turning on his ‘A game’ against Rob Powell’s Super League leaders.

The 27-year-old has been happy with his start to the season (don’t mention Castleford to him!) and is more than willing to take on any task demanded by head coach Nathan Brown.

With new signing Dale Ferguson in the 19 for the first time – there is again no place for Keith Mason – Faiumu accepts the pressure is on and he aims to deliver against Quins, who will be wearing a pink quartered kit in support of Cancer Research UK, seen inset being worn by Tony Clubb.

“I’ve got a job here to bring a lot of spark and energy off the bench and I’m pleased with how things are going,” said Wellington-born Faiumu.

“I’m always looking to improve my game and add new dimensions and Browny (Nathan) puts me where he best thinks I’m needed.

“If we need to get some offloads going then I’m up for that, and equally so if we need to keep it tight and play the tough game.

“It’s just a matter of being versatile, so if we need a bit of second phase I can deliver that and, if not, I can grind it out like the rest of the boys.”

Faiumu, the former North Queensland Cowboy who has just signed a deal to the end of the 2013 season, believes there’s more to come from the third-placed Giants.

“We got back to something like against Hull, but we are working on our fluency all the time,” he explained.

“It was all a bit stop-start against Hull, but we got the result in the end against a team with some star quality players, and it was good to knock them off their feet.

“We can do the same against Harlequins tonight if we turn up with the right mentality. We have to respect the opposition and turn up realising it’s going to be tough, but if we get the 1% things right, all the little things we’ve become accustomed to over the last few seasons, then we will back ourselves to do well.”

Quins will be bidding for a fourth consecutive win to continue their 100% record this weekend.

They are expected to keep the same side that won at Leeds a week ago, with coach Rob Powell looking for a repeat.

“Spirits are high in the camp after our third successive win of the season,” he said. “It was a bruising encounter up at Headingley and one in which many players had to play hurt for large chunks of the game.

“We were actually a bit disappointed to concede the two tries late on which I think shows the mentality of where the group is currently at.”
