Leroy Cudjoe believes Huddersfield Giants teammate Jermaine McGillvary should be an automatic England pick for this autumn’s International series.

But he admits his own chances of earning a re-call could be slim.

England boss Steve McNamara will name his 24-man squad next Sunday lunchtime (October 11) for the one-off Test against France at Leigh on Saturday, October 24, and then the three-Test series that gets under way against New Zealand the following week.

And former England World Cup centre Cudjoe is convinced the fact wing partner McGillvary – who has today signed a new four-year Giants contract – was last week selected for the Super League Dream Team for the first time after finishing top of the competition’s try chart with 27 is more than enough proof that he should get the nod.

“Jerry’s been great for us all year, and definitely deserves to be picked,” said Cudjoe, whose form towards the back end of the season has put his name back in the England frame.

“I’d be absolutely delighted if he got in, particularly when you think how many quality wingers Steve’s got to pick from.

“Personally, I think Jerry’s got more of a chance of getting picked than me. I’m not too sure about my own chances at all.

“But whether I’m picked or not, my aim this pre-season will be to keep on looking to improve on the way I was playing towards the back end of the season.

“Obviously, last week’s play-off semi-final defeat at Wigan (32-8) hit us hard, but we all intend to learn from that and be much better and stronger next season.”
