Hat-trick hero Jermaine McGillvary is hoping the Giants can build on their 52-26 Super League success over Bradford Bulls and finally rediscover their best form.

Huddersfield grabbed 10 tries to end a two-match losing run and condemn Bradford to a life outside the top flight.

But while McGillvary was delighted to have been part of a winning Giants side he knows everything is far from being perfect.

“We’re obviously in the business of winning, so we’ve got to be happy about the result,” said the powerful winger.

“But no-one’s happy at all with the way we’re playing, both individually and collectively.

“I definitely know my performances over the past four of five weeks haven’t been great, and I just hope scoring this hat trick will be the trigger for me to start playing better.

“I also hope the win will be the trigger for us to start playing better as a team.

“Lapses in concentration seem to be hitting us really hard at the moment, because we’re conceding some very soft tries and making some bad mistakes in possession.

“We did that again against Bradford. I know the weather was hot and made it more difficult, but that would simply be making excuses.

“It’s us to make sure we stop making the silly errors.”

McGillvary has already set his sights on making an even stronger contribution in Sunday’s home clash against Catalan Dragons, although he knows it may not be as memorable for him as a game against the Bulls.

“There’s always something extra special for me playing against the Bulls,” he added.

“As a kid, they were always my second favourite club behind Huddersfield, so it was unbelievable when I made my Super League debut against them at Odsal in 2009.

“Since then, I’ve been part of some great Giants wins over Bradford, and now I’ve score a hat trick against them.

“I’ve only scored a couple of hat tricks before, but I think the fact this one was against the Bulls makes it my most memorable.

“Personally, the only shame is that I’ve played a part in relegating the Bulls from Super League.”
