KEVIN BROWN is hoping to get the chance to return to the England ranks against Papua New Guinea on Saturday and finish his Four Nations tour with England on a high.

The Giants stand-off was axed from the side beaten 34-14 by Australia in Melbourne, although clubmates Eorl Crabtree, Leroy Cudjoe, Shaun Lunt and Luke Robinson were all included.

It was a defeat which ended England’s dreams of reaching the Four Nations final in Brisbane on November 13.

It also means Steve McNamara’s men head to Auckland looking to beat coach Stanley Gene’s Kumuls and avoid collecting the wooden spoon – and Brown is desperate to play a part in ensuring that doesn’t happen.

“I was gutted to miss out on playing against Australia, as you’d expect,” said the Giants player of the Year.

“I didn’t feel I’d played that badly in the warm-up game against the Maori and then against New Zealand in the Four Nations opener.

“But there’s no point dwelling on it. I want to make sure I play this weekend and help us return home with a win under our belts.

“Yet whether I play or not, I know I’ll come back to Huddersfield a better player.

“Being part of the England set-up does wonders for your confidence and the experience is second-to-none.

“Training alongside world-class players and with such top-quality coaches is bound to have a positive effect. It certainly can’t be a bad thing.”
