NATHAN BROWN is hoping Leroy Cudjoe’s wonder pass for Michael Lawrence’s try against St Helens will provide the spark required for the England centre to re-discover his top Giants form.

Cudjoe showed amazing skill to send a perfect pass out of the back door for Lawrence to collect and dive over as Huddersfield romped to a 40-18 Galpharm triumph to strengthen their second-placed position in the Super League table.

It was a moment which underlined Cudjoe’s undisputed quality.

And Brown is hoping the 22-year-old can now take that form into Sunday’s home Carnegie Challenge Cup clash against Catalan Dragons (3.00) and then keep building on it as the season progresses.

“That moment showed just what a skilful player Leroy is,” said Brown.

“To be honest, I’d have preferred a two-handed pass from him!

“But I also know there aren’t a lot of people who can throw a pass like that, because no-one can ever doubt the fantastic ability Leroy possesses.

“Unfortunately, we’ve not been able to see too much of that so far this year.

“He’s had a bit of an indifferent start to the season, and at this stage no-one can put a finger on why he’s made such a slow start.

“But he had one of his better games the other day, and we’re hoping his very valuable contribution against St Helens will help him get back to his best form.

“If Leroy can start to play more consistently, kicking-off with this game against Catalan on Sunday, then there could be a lot for us to look forward to.”

Cudjoe was named on the wing for last weekend’s top-flight clash against Saints but is set to return to the centres for the Cup tie against the French, with the winners earning a place in the quarter-final.

That’s because in-form teenage three-quarter Joe Wardle has been ruled out with a slight hamstring strain, paving the way for David Hodgson to come back onto the wing.

Also ruled out is former Australian Test back-row forward Luke O’Donnell, who picked up a more serious hamstring injury in the warm-up and could be out for up to six weeks.

The loss of such an inspirational forward is clearly a blow.

But with the Giants having proved far too strong against St Helens without him, Brown is confident his side can go out this weekend and get the job done.

“Luke has been great for us this season, and you never like to lose one of your top players,” added Brown.

“But they did play very well in his absence last Saturday, with Danny Kirmond stepping up to the starting line-up in Luke’s absence and then producing his best performance for us since his knee injury.

“And at this stage we’re still thinking about putting Keith Mason straight back in.

“He returned to full training with the boys on Wednesday and has immediately created a very positive impression, he’s a very fit lad.

“Catalan attack a little differently to other sides in the competition, and we know Keith would do an excellent job against their bigger fellas.”

Sunday’s tie is an all-pay fixture.

Adult admission is at a discounted rate of £15, with £10 for concessions and £5 for children.

Supporters can pay on the turnstiles, while junior season-ticket holders get in free by using the voucher in their season-ticket booklet.
