HI, it’s Luke here.

And despite having a late night on Thursday, everyone turned up at training yesterday morning feeling fresh and ready to play.

Well, I say ‘everyone’, but that would be a bit of a lie, because Brett Ferres isn’t ready to play after picking up an injury during our win at Hull KR.

There were initial fears he could be sidelined for a while with a knee injury, but it now looks like it’ll only be a couple of weeks with a quad injury.

I’m personally delighted about that, particularly after scaring the living daylights out of him on the coach journey home from Hull.

I sat next to Brett on the way home, and I obviously asked him how the knee felt.

He was feeling pretty optimistic and reported to me that it didn’t feel too bad at all.

Unfortunately, rather than share in his positive outlook, I responded that he shouldn’t read too much into that.

“I’ve known examples of players whose knee was looking an awful mess but the following week they were ok to play, and others where it didn’t look too bad and they ended up having to have a total knee reconstruction!’ I unreassuringly told him.

Brett reacted by going as white as a sheet at the harsh realisation that his season could be over, while the rest of the boys burst into laughter at taking the wind out of Brett’s sails without even trying.

What I was trying to do was not raise Brett’s hopes too highly in case the news was bad. Instead, I just ended up giving him a sleepless night worrying about what I’d said.

So I was mightily relieved when the news came through and the outlook was as bright as it could have been, although I may give Brett a bit of a wide berth over the next couple of days!

To be honest, Brett wouldn’t be the only player to have struggled to sleep on Thursday night, because that’s an occupational hazard when you’ve played a night match.

Your adrenalin levels are obviously sky high straight after a game, so trying to nod off when your head first hits the pillow is an impossibility.

It was at least 4am before I managed to do it, which isn’t great when we had to be back in for training for 11am.

Fortunately, we were still able to get cracking with a spring in our step, because we’d won the night before.

I’d hate to think how we’d felt if we’d lost – and that was motivation in itself for making sure we made it nine wins out of 10 on the east coast.
