IN Sean O’Loughlin’s testimonial brochure, there’s a piece written by his former Wigan teammate Luke Robinson.

It’s a generally quirky piece, with the Giants hooker ripping into someone who’s been a good mate for 14 years.

But at the same time, it also pays tribute to what a great player O’Loughlin has become.

As the loose-forward with his hometown club, the Wigan captain has led the Warriors to Super League Grand Final glory and Challenge Cup final success, as well as been a regular in the England set-up.

All this will be recognised when O’Loughlin and his Warriors take on the Giants in his testimonial game at the DW Stadium tonight (8.00).

And Robinson has no doubt the benefit game – the first to be staged at the stadium since Wigan and Huddersfield met as part of Kris Radlinski’s testimonial five years ago – is richly deserved.

“When I was asked to write a piece, I knew I’d have to take the mickey out of him, it would have been rude not to!” said the 27-year-old England ace, pictured.

“Over the years I’ve got to know him really well and what makes him tick, and that’s given me a real insight into his character.

“We first met at Wigan when I was 13 and he was a year older. But I always played a year above, so we were in the Academy together and then in the old Under 21s competition, even though we were both under-age.

“On top of that, we also signed professionally for Wigan at the same time, along with (former Giants) Martin Aspinwall and Stephen Wild.

“This obviously means we’ve got a bit off a special bond, and I’m absolutely chuffed to bits I’ll be involved in his testimonial game.

“And there’s no question he’s deserved it.

“Lockers is just an honest, all-round bloke, who hasn’t let his fantastic ability go to his head.

“He’s also a great leader, even though he’s never been the loudest around. He’s one of those who lets his rugby do the talking and never fails to take the lead with the way he plays.

“I, for one, will be delighted to see him walk out there for his special game tonight.”

But while Robinson is interested to see how O’Loughlin performs, he is even more concerned about his own performance.

It will be his second game back following elbow surgery, and he’s looking forward to building on last Friday’s trial clash at Castleford.

“The body came through it okay, even though it was really sore at the end, which is to be expected,” he added. “So now it’s a case of work on my timing and making sure I contribute even more tonight.”
