HUDDERSFIELD Giants’ man for all positions Scott Grix is looking forward to getting back to work.

The 29-year-old returns to his full-back position for this season under head coach Paul Anderson and is looking forward to his return to the No1 slot as Super League XVIII gets under way for the Giants at St Helens at tea-time (4.45)

“I wasn’t disappointed to play at half back last season, but I did feel that I had contributed more the previous season playing at full-back,” said the Halifax-born player.

“Obviously you do what you need to do for the team , but I have to say that I have always really enjoyed playing at full-back.

“So I am glad to be back there, the build up to the season has been good and now I just want to get on with it.”

As ever a new campaign brings new additions to the squad and, with Anderson in charge of his first full campaign, Grix feels everything is in place for the Giants to compete for the top spots.

“I have enjoyed the pre-season, and we have been working since back in November, so we all feel that we are ready to go in the games,” said Grix.

“In some ways it is a new squad and there is a lot of excitement about what we have achieved.

“Paul (Anderson) definitely brings a different approach and he has obviously changed what he did as assistant to Nathan (Brown), but we knew that would be the case.

“The thing with ‘Baloo’ is that everything is black or white.

“He tells you exactly how he wants things and that is what you have to give – if it not right your are going to struggle.

“He did have the end of last season to work with the team, but that was no where near a measure of what he can do and he will have been glad of the pre-season to put his way of doing things across.

“He’s a big bloke as well, so you don’t want to get on the wrong side of him,” Grix added with a smile.

And a new face Grix is backing to have an impact is former Great Britain international star Stuart Fielden, signed after he parted company with Wigan Warriors.

“Obviously one of the main reasons Stuart has been brought in is that he is a great player, but he brings so much more than that,” said Grix.

“He is a winner and he has spent a lot of time since he arrived teaching us what it takes to get that winning mentality.

“It has been pretty intense working with him in the pre-season and when he gets on the field you can be sure he will be leading from the front.

“We have had a few new guys come in, like Craig Kopczak and Anthony Mullally, and I think it has been a pretty big deal for them to come to a club and start working with someone like Stuart.”
