LUKE O’DONNELL is being pencilled in for the Huddersfield Giants’ pre-season clash against Widnes Vikings.

And the former Australia Test back-rower could be joined in the John Smith’s Stadium line-up on Sunday, January 20, by fellow forwards Eorl Crabtree and Jacob Fairbank.

All three are making solid recoveries following major shoulder surgery – Crabtree has also undergone elbow repairs – and are well ahead of their original return dates.

In fact, Crabtree linked up with the full squad for pre-season training two days ago, with O’Donnell and Fairbank expected to follow in the next few days.

“When all three had their operations, it was touch and go whether any of them would be available for the start of the season,” said coach Paul Anderson, whose side have a first friendly at St Helens next Friday night.

“But now there’s a very realistic chance all three of them will be in the frame. Eorl’s been back with us this week, and it’s fair to say he’s flying. He looks strong.

“And, all being well, we’ll be joined by Luke and Bob (Fairbank) pretty soon. These two both underwent major reconstruction surgery at the end of last season and are the only ones still in rehab.”
