The Huddersfield Giants will stick to their original plan of sending a trimmed-down squad to Halifax for Sunday’s pre-season clash at The Shay.

With Huddersfield’s opening trial game against Bradford Bulls having been called off due to last weekend’s icy blast, it was thought head coach Paul Anderson might alter his approach for the clash against the Kingstone Press Championship club.

But Anderson has said that won’t be the case, and has also confirmed the three players who have spent much of pre-season in rehab – Scott Grix (shoulder), Michael Lawrence (wrist) and Kyle Wood (knee) – have again not been considered.

“We’re sticking with the plan to send about 19 or 20 to Halifax,” said Anderson, who has yet to reveal exactly who those will be.

“That means some blokes will be missing out, which is unfortunate, but we’ve got to be as ready as we can for round one at home to Hull on February 8.

“And we’ve decided against including Grixy, Bruno and Woody, who aren’t quite ready yet and still need another couple of weeks.

“It’s going to be a long year, so there’s no point rushing them back at all.”

Although the continuing snow and ice is threatening to cast doubt over Sunday’s fixture, the forecast heading into the weekend is for much milder weather, with Fax chairman Michael Steele hoping for a bumper turn-out.

“The Giants have again confirmed they will be sending a first-choice squad to win The Infirmary Cup,” he said.

“So I would urge anybody to come to The Shay on Sunday to sample the atmosphere.

“There will be a new matchday experience for everyone to enjoy this season, and we’re determined rugby league’s new era will be a great success in Halifax.”
