Huddersfield Giants coach Paul Anderson expects to have his full Super League squad back for pre-season training before the end of November.

The official start date for the build-up to the 2016 Super League XXI campaign is on Monday, November 9.

But with several senior squad members on international duty, not everyone will be signing-in on day one.

Those Giants stars already signed up for national service this autumn are Scotland duo Danny Brough and Joe Wardle, Ireland pair Scott Grix and Oliver Roberts, and Tonga’s Ukuma Ta’ai.

There could also be several Huddersfield players involved in England’s Test series against New Zealand, with winger Jermaine McGillvary and fit-again back-row forward Brett Ferres expected to lead the club’s bid. The 24-man final squad will be announced by national coach Steve McNamara on Sunday lunchtime.

But with new big Australian NRL signings Ryan Hinchcliffe (from Melbourne Storm) and Sam Rapira (New Zealand Warriors) waiting to arrive for the start date, there should still be the opportunity for some quality pre-season work right from the start.

And that’s important for Anderson as he looks to pick up the pieces from their desperately disappointing play-off semi-final exit at Wigan a week ago.

“The manner of our defeat at Wigan shows there’s still plenty of work for us to do,” said Anderson.

“That’s something we definitely intend to do, because we don’t want a repeat of what happened this year when the stakes are at their highest the next time around.”
