LAST Saturday’s match is on BBC’s iPlayer. No matter how many times I watch it, we still win – with 12 men!

And what an outstanding performance!

I spoke with Eorl’s Dad, Jerry, down at Turnbridge WMC just before kick-off. I said I hoped we would turn up this week not like last. He just smiled and said “They’ve got it all planned”.

And who was the master planner?

Our head coach, Paul Anderson, HGSA’s latest guest.

Paul was asked about Warrington’s 14th man, the yellow man. It transpires it was Richard Marshall, one of our ex-players.

Paul explained the situation as follows:

“The rules state a coach can go onto the pitch to inform a player that he is about to be substituted, and can stay there for three plays of the ball.

“However, I do not agree with this, and always tell Chris Thorman to get off immediately.”

One of the things Paul aims to do is to get coaches to understand what referees want and, in return, for referees to understand how coaches work.

To this end, he had the top brass of the refereeing fraternity down at the stadium last week.

He also was keen to bring back the ‘Plate’ competition, with each Cup fourth-round loser entering a second cup competition with the final being held at Wembley.

Not only would this give added interest to more clubs, but would also help to sell out Wembley.
