IT’S an old cliché, but isn’t ‘Summer Rugby’ wonderful!

Giant coach Paul Anderson’s team has the potential to go far – and let’s hope we improve on the practice matches right up to, and including, the Grand Final!

In contrast, the Supporters Association are starting the year off with a bang!

We have already heard some blunt insights from League Weekly boss Danny Lockwood, and next month you will have the chance to hear all about our managing director Richard Thewlis’ favourite team and how he became involved at the club. He might even answer a question or two!

This Friday (January 25) will see us savour our annual pre-Season Meal. We meet at The Sportsman from 6.30 and transfer to the

Marimonte (on Viaduct Street, opposite Tescos) for 7.30.

The event is almost sold out. Contact Margaret Callaghan on 07414 270760 for details.

We held an extremely enjoyable Junior Disco ahead of the London Broncos’ match last year, and we’ll be repeating it again on Sunday, February 10 before our opening home Super League XVIII fixture of the season – again against the Broncos. It will be in the Fantastic Media Suite at the John Smith’s Stadium starting at 1.00 pm. All children must be accompanied by an adult, and entry is free!

Sunday, March 3 when we host Bradford Bulls has been designated a ‘Sporting Memories’ match.

Teams of people will collect oral, written, and also visual memories from spectators, together with a memories board on which supporters can pin up images, memorabilia, memories or write memories. This will help with the setting up of Reminiscence Boxes for use in care homes.

It is the first ever rugby league match specifically designated to promote mental health issues and is being organised in partnership with the club, Heritage Project and the Sporting Memories Network to specifically promote awareness of dementia.

The following day (March 4) will see the return of the immensely popular Fans Forum.

HGSA has teamed up with the club to hold the event in the Revell Suite at the stadium. Meet at 7.00pm for a 7.15pm start. Entry will be free for HGSA members and season-ticket holders, with a nominal £2 charge for others.

Meanwhile, we shall be inviting teams of four from all over Huddersfield to take part in our Big Quiz around Easter time. There will be a charge of £5 per team, and there will be one prize of 75% of the evening’s profits.

Finally, membership is now due – in fact it’s overdue! We have yet again held the fee to £5.

This is a saving of at least £5 if you attend our monthly meetings as a non-member! You can now pay or enrol online through our website.
