So what happened at our meeting with the Huddersfield Giants directors last week?

We asked about the lack of Christmas party for the juniors.

Apparently, the one held in 2013 was poorly attended so it was decided to give it a miss this time. However, plans are in the pipeline for other events where youngsters can meet their heroes. Details should be forthcoming presently.

In addition, we are looking at ways in which The Zone can be utilised for events for both teens and youngsters.

We were asked if we had heard reports about the marketing van.

This is a removal-sized wagon with an A-frame attached. It wanders around the town advertising matches. If you see it, point it out to others.

In addition, does anyone know of a suitable lay-by where the driver can park it whilst he has a cup of coffee?

There followed a discussion about the band.

This, as you know, is a novel idea for our club. Unfortunately, the person guiding the players became ill and could not attend the match, leaving the band members to play what they thought was appropriate.

For future matches, one of our members will approach the ‘singers’ and then liaise with the band in order to make the crowd’s experience of them positive.

It was suggested that the website ought to have more appealing clips of previous matches and this was agreed.

Social media reared its ever-present head.

Whilst we have a reasonable Twitter following, our Facebook page has fewer followers than most other clubs. The upshot of this is that if anyone would like to spend some time at the stadium promoting the club via social media, James Brammer (01484 484114) will welcome you.

Speaking of volunteers.

If anyone is willing to give up some time to re-stick the ‘Reserved’ stickers on seats, you also will be welcomed. The ones attached earlier in the season have somehow been removed!

Another area where you can help is in the preparation of the ground on matchdays.

There are lots of little jobs to be done, as well as the somewhat larger task of placing the BondIt covers over seats. Sundays 10am until 1pm and weekdays 4-6pm are when you are required.

“But why should we do the jobs that the club should be doing?” I hear you ask.

Simple. We do not have large enough crowds to employ the same number of backroom staff that the likes of Leeds and Wigan do. So, the more we, as fans, can help out, the better it is for all of us.

I hope that the cat has not been let out of the bag too early with the above comments, but it might put some pressure on you to volunteer and us to follow things through.

Our next meeting will be on Tuesday, March 3 when Sammy Lloyd will be our guest. Sammy played for Castleford and Hull FC in the 70s and 80s, and was a goalkicking second-row forward. As usual, this will be open for all to attend, with non-members paying a mere £1.

Everyone is welcome at all our events. Full details can be found at www.GiantsSupporters.co.uk or contact Dave Calverley on 07887 878425.
