So, if you won’t join us at home, why not come to an away game? **

You’ll be amazed. The atmosphere is outstanding.

Apparently, it was Ken Davy who wanted a band amongst the crowd in an attempt to increase audience participation. The initial response was, shall we say, unenthusiastic.

However, working with the band - thanks mainly to committee member Daz Eastwood - this has taken off big time.

It has given the hard core of singers renewed enthusiasm, resulting in almost non-stop singing and chanting throughout a match.

This in turn has resulted in the vast majority of travelling fans joining in.

It has been widely reported how the players appreciate this and it was clearly demonstrated on Sunday.

Not only did the fans give the players a long, standing ovation, but the latter seemed reluctant to leave the celebrations - no doubt they had some of their own later!

It really is a pleasure to be amongst such a crowd.

So yet another “Well done Ken”.

For those who can’t get enough of watching our sporting heroes, the now annual cricket match is nearly upon us (Sunday, July 12).

There is fun for all the family. There is entertainment on and off the square (cricketing term for pitch).

It’s a game where Baloo Anderson becomes Slogger Anderson!

HGSA hope to have a ‘Buy & Swap’ stall. Simply being along any unwanted Fartown/Giants/rugby related items and swap them for others on display (for a small fee, naturally!). Other people might even buy them.

Following on from the Ipswich Branch’s article last week about referees, Sunday was a classic example.

To all intent and purposes, I saw Hanbury throw a punch at Brett Ferres to which Brett returned a left uppercut. Whilst Brett deserved to be sent off, Hanbury started it.

Wrong again, Mr Silverwood?

The video clip shows Brett push Hanbury, Hanbury push Brett, who then used his right hand.

Oops... Correct again Mr Silverwood – and I like to think I’m objective with my views!
