Over the last year, since the successful Olympic Games, the number of sports trying to get our attention has grown.
The media is being pulled one way and then the other, covering cycling more, netball more, plus many high and low profile sports stars and competitions.
So Rugby League fans have to look after their own interests and support all the companies and institutions that support our game.
For instance, Sky Sports, whether you love them or hate them, invest a lot of money into Rugby League and give the game a lot of coverage that Auntie Beeb just can’t. But you don’t have to subscribe to receive the TV coverage return Sky’s support. Why not access their very good website which is full of all sorts of background information as well as interviews and opinions?
Don’t stop there! The BBC has various web pages, both local and national, which give previews and reports, as well as news. And there’s the comprehensive coverage offered by James Deighton and the crew at BBC Radio Leeds.
Talking of local, there are Chris Roberts and his team who keep us informed here in Huddersfield writing in the Examiner. Support them by buying the paper or reading the website. The more clicks they receive the more likely the information you want will continue to be forthcoming.
In addition, there are many fans who put a lot of time and effort into helping us all receive the information we need. www.rugbyleagueontv.co.uk has, for those without Sky, links to all the radio stations covering all the Super League games.
And there are one or two Giants fans who Tweet from all the matches, giving instant comment and scores for those who can’t attend. For them to continue they need your support.
The companies who sponsor our game, and our teams, and the matches do so for a number of reasons. Yes, they want us to buy their products, but they also want to support their local communities and this is one way of achieving that. So why not buy one of their products, even just occasionally, so they get the message that we appreciate their support.
Finally, get out there and support the Huddersfield Giants!
Support the team, the backroom staff and the events they organise, the shops, and remember to buy your tickets at the stadium to help fund the team.
And try one more time to talk a friend or work mate into coming to a match.
You are supporters, so live up to that name!
Oh yes, why not support us in the Supporters Association, too!
