Huddersfield Giants are without three players for their Super League outing against London Broncos – and, like England, are waiting on the health of another.

Three-quarter Aaron Murphy is facing six to eight weeks out with a hand injury, hooker Shaun Lunt is yet to recover from a calf strain and forward Jacob ‘Bobbie’ Fairbank is nursing and ankle problem are all set to miss Saturday’s showdown at the John Smith’s Stadium, while international centre Leroy Cudjoe’s recovery from illness was being assessed.

Cudjoe was a late withdrawal from the Giants squad last Thursday when he was left out of the side that beat Leeds Rhinos 24-22 at Headingley due to a virus.

The 25-year-old centre had been due to join England coach Steve McNamara’s training camp at Loughborough at the weekend ready for a three-day get-together and club and country were weighing up whether he should travel to join up today.

“Leroy missed the first day of camp and we are talking to them about whether he should be on board,” said Giants assistant coach Kieron Purtill.

“Really we were working out whether or not we should be spreading his germs round Super League or not.”

Winger Murphy is facing an extended spell on the sidelines after breaking a bone in his hand during the victory at Headingley.

Aaron toughed it out at Leeds to get through the game, but it looks as though it could be up to eight weeks,” said Purtill.

“He went in for an operation yesterday and we will have to assess the injury from there, but hopefully he will get him back stronger and fitter.”

Lunt missed the Leeds game due to his calf problem and Fairbank returned from a loan spell at Wakefield Wildcats carrying an ankle knock that has now been assessed.

“Shaun is probably still a week off being ready in his rehab, while Bobbie is still a few weeks away,” explained Purtill.

“You have to feel that Bobbie has been very unlucky with injuries of late but he is looking to come back strong.”
