In-form Hull KR head to the Huddersfield Giants on Sunday knowing victory is vital in their bid to secure a top-eight Super League finish.

A lack of consistency has been the Robins’ big failing this season, with Rovers unable to string a positive run of results together. The fact coach Chris Chester brought in nine new signings for 2015 may have been a factor in that.

In fact, their best run is right now, and they will arrive at the John Smith’s Stadium this weekend seeking a fifth successive victory.

Those include home League wins over Widnes (38-16), Warrington (36-10) and Salford (34-28) and a 32-26 Challenge Cup quarter-final triumph over Catalans Dragons, also at their KC Lightstream Stadium, last Thursday.

The last-minute win over Salford was their most recent success, which came on Tuesday and lifted them into eighth place on 18 points with four games of the regular season remaining.

It’s clearly going to be a challenging assignment for the Robins when they get back on the road again this weekend to play their third game in 10 days.

But with several players rested against the Red Devils the other night and with the Super League stakes so high, Rovers will be determined to give it their very best shot.

They have already beaten the Giants this season, claiming a 20-16 home triumph on Easter Monday, and securing a League double over their fourth-placed hosts would give the Robins another massive boost in their bid for a big League and Cup finish.

Albert Kelly has been a revelation since arriving at Hull KR for the start of this season.

Fellow Australian Terry Campese had been hailed as the Robins’ main recruit for 2015 – and until picking up a season-ending knee injury a month ago he was looking like a potential Super League Man of Steel – but Kelly’s influence has been just as important.

The talented half-back, who joined Rovers along with Gold Coast teammate Maurice Blair, has been at the heart of many of his side’s successes this season, including Tuesday’s dramatic 34-28 home triumph over Salford Red Devils when he crossed for a matchclinching last-minute try.

But his impact in Super League really shouldn’t have come as that great a surprise, with Kelly tipped as a possible Australia NRL Dally M Medal contender following a blistering start to the 2014 campaign.
