Disappointed Giants winger Jermaine McGillvary has immediately put the disappointment of missing out on an England debut against France behind him and focused all on playing in next weekend’s opening Test against New Zealand at Hull.

McGillvary and Huddersfield teammate Leroy Cudjoe both missed out on selection for the warm-up clash against the French at Leigh Sports Village, which England won 84-4, while fellow Giant Brett Ferres was on the bench but scored a hat trick of tries.

And while McGillvary admitted he was disappointed not to be involved, he’s refused to let it dampen his enthusiasm about the potential challenges ahead.

“I’m obviously disappointed, although not too disappointed,” said Super League Dream Team winger McGillvary, who many believed should have got the nod to prove himself in the France showdown.

“This is a quality 24-man squad and I was never going to take anything for granted.

“(England coach) Steve McNamara had a word with me as soon as I knew I wasn’t going to be playing, and he told me what a hard decision it had been for him.

“He told me I was still very much in the frame for the Test series.

“It was also pretty hard to take because I’m not used to not playing.

“But I’ve always been very determined in everything I’ve done, so I’m already looking forward to next week and proving I should be there against New Zealand.

“Although I’d have loved to have been included, it’s not spoiled the time I’m having with the England squad.

“I’m loving every minute of it here. They’re a great set of lads, and the intensity and quality of every training session is unbelievable.”
