Victorious Huddersfield Giants are facing an anxious wait over the fitness of Brett Ferres.

The in-form England back-row forward suffered a first-half knee injury to take the gloss off Huddersfield’s hard-fought 26-22 triumph at Hull KR last night.

It was a result which made it nine wins in the last 10 games for the Giants, who moved up to fourth in the top-flight table ahead of the rest of this weekend’s fixtures.

But while head coach Paul Anderson was delighted to have secured a fourth successive win and gained revenge for the 24-24 draw at the John Smith’s Stadium earlier in the season, he admits the potential seriousness of the injury to Ferres is a case for concern.

“Until we’ve had him scanned we obviously can’t say for certain,” said Anderson.

“But, hopefully, it’s not too bad. All we know is that he’s got some damage to his MCL (medial cruciate ligament).

“That’s one of the disappointments of last night, as was our total lack of respect for possession at times. I’ve just said to them ‘imagine how good you could be if you could hold onto the ball!’

“But at least we found a way to win in this sort of game, because that’s something we weren’t doing earlier in the season.”
